Like to crack the art of making the perfect, runny eggs paired with crispy soldiers every time? Then read on to discover our top tips and secret kitchen weapon to achieving delectable breakfast eggs every time.
Boiled eggs and soldiers are a staple classic in the Jo D household. Breakfast, brunch or for a kids' teatime snack, they never fail to bring smiles all around and put grumbly tummies at ease. With a few simple steps, enjoying the perfect combination of creamy yolks paired with crunchy toast is easy.
Step 1. The Eggs
We're lucky enough to collect fresh, free-range eggs from our gorgeous hens whenever we're in the mood for eggs-on-toast, but if you don't own your own fluffy chicks, opt to buy free-range eggs where you can.
Step 2. The Prep
Half-fill a small saucepan with water. Place it on the hob over a medium heat and bring the water to a boil. Once boiling, gently lower your eggs in the saucepan.
Set a timer for approx 4 minutes (set it slightly longer for larger eggs). This will give you a lovely soft-boiled egg with a creamy, runny yolk. If you prefer your yolk firmer, add an extra minute to the cooking time, or for hard-boiled eggs, set the total time to 7 minutes.
Step 3. The Toast
White, brown, granary or sourdough, pop your bread of choice into the toaster while the eggs are cooking. When it's golden brown, remove, spread with butter, cut into strips - the soldiers - and pop onto one of our Plates.
Step 4. Bringing It Altogether
When the eggs are cooked, remove them from the saucepan and pop them into our Egg Cups and place them next to your buttery toasted soldiers.
Step 5. The Fun Part
Now comes the fun part. To slice off the top of your egg with ease and precision, we wouldn't be without our secret kitchen weapon - the Egg Clacker! This super helpful gadget gently cracks the top of your soft-boiled eggs, making it easy to slice off the top and get straight to the good bit - dipping those soldiers into the bright runny yolk!
